Frinsa Estate is a farm of global renown. You’ve almost certainly heard of it if you love Indonesian coffee. In 2010, Wildan Mustofa and his wife Atiek Mustikaningtyas launched their first coffee project. From the very beginning, with their focus firmly set on quality, they specialized in washed coffees. At that time, even in Indonesia’s specialty market, wet-hulled coffee was considered the norm, so producing washed coffee was a clear statement of quality.
Frinsa, located in West Java, operates a processing station, well-ventilated warehouses, and a hulling facility. All of these are situated together at 1,400 meters above sea level. This enables the producers to maintain quality control at every stage — from cultivation and harvesting to fermentation, drying, hulling, and sorting.
While the core direction of Frinsa remains washed coffee production, here in our market they are best known for intensely fermented, funky coffees bursting with sweetness and tropical notes. Today, they divide their lots into three categories:
– Sarapan (“breakfast”) — typically washed or honey coffees with balance and clarity.
– Manis (“sweet”) — honey or natural coffees, slightly funky but predominantly sweet.
– Edun (“crazy”) — wild, experimental lots loaded with funk.
This particular lot comes from the Manis line. At Frinsa they like to say this is the coffee that everyone loves. Yet, in our view, this lot could easily belong to the Edun line — because it is truly wild. Vivid, intense notes of passion fruit, grape, and starfruit. Juicy acidity and incredible sweetness.
