Java was one of the first Indonesian islands to start growing coffee—back in the 1600s. That’s why the island is home to the largest number of coffee companies. And although most of Java’s plantations are located in the east, this lot is a striking example of production from the western region. Kamojang is a fascinating place, known for its geothermal wonders and natural beauty. A geothermal power plant is surrounded by steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pots, and hot springs that shape a unique landscape and reveal the raw energy of the earth. All of this blends with breathtaking views, lush vegetation, and volcanic peaks rising in the distance.
This lot comes from Kurasi Beans Indonesia, a company that works in close partnership with several farmers and processing stations. The story began with the opening of a café in 2013. As he grew within the specialty industry, Afif saw the great potential of outstanding Indonesian coffee. Kurasi was founded in 2020, and since then Afif has been curating partner selection, processing methods, quality control, and the company’s core values.
This lot is a remarkable result of the drive and effort of great people. A natural anaerobic process with added yeast in the fermentation tanks encouraged lactobacillus dominance. This boosted the intensity and quality of fermentation, making the coffee extra sweet and expressive. The cup is bright, with sweet notes of pineapple, citrus, and papaya.
