La Lorena is a very small farm — a 4-hectare plot located in the Tolima region. The farmer, Hugo Mora, is an ambitious person with a story. His first coffee tree was the Castillo variety, but Hugo was disappointed by the low prices for that coffee. Everything changed in 2015, when he met a neighbor who exported rare varieties at higher prices. Through him, Hugo was able to get seedlings of Pink Bourbon, Maracaturra, and Gesha.
Three years later, he met Nuerly Gutiérrez — a Q Grader and fifth-generation coffee producer, owner of Monteverde farm and (!) CEO of Cafe 100 Años. Nuerly taught Hugo processing techniques and helped him develop a new coffee variety: Mokka. The farmer’s efforts paid off: Nuerly recognized the quality of the harvest and purchased it through Cafe 100 Años.
Hugo also received support through funding from another company to build a marquesina — covered greenhouses with raised mesh beds where the coffee is dried. This became a key factor in improving the quality of his coffee. Today, Hugo continues to grow and develop, and his coffee is recognized by some of Colombia’s best exporters. This lot is no exception.
This Pink Bourbon from Cafe 100 Años, processed as a honey, is one of the cleanest cups in our assortment. A wonderful coffee with a bright, golden aroma, notes of white peach and florals. An incredible cup.
