COFFEE FROM THE SLOPES NEAR THE UNIQUE KENYAN SAVANNAS
Mara is part of the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, known for its rich biodiversity and as the site of the Great Migration of animals each year. It is one of the least crowded areas of the reserve, making it ideal for a true safari experience.
This region is managed by the nonprofit organizationMara Conservancy, which focuses on wildlife conservation and supporting local Maasai communities. The Mara River plays a vital role, providing water for the local flora and fauna, especially during the dry season. The river is also crucial for the ecosystem of the Narok region, and its water is used for coffee processing.
The processing station in this part of the region handles coffee from many smallholder farmers. Here, the classic and vibrant Kenyan varieties grow—SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian. The station also processes coffee using the natural method, which is rather unusual for the country. While more stations in Kenya have recently started experimenting with such methods, naturally processed Kenyan coffees are still relatively rare worldwide.
This method not only enhances the brightness of the cup but also imparts a pleasant red berry fermentation and adds sweetness to an already remarkable coffee.
