The world-famous Sonora farm lies at the foothills of Poás Volcano and thrives with biodiversity. A full 100 hectares combine renewable energy, environmentally responsible farming, and an unreal terroir. Imagine this: the farm uses electricity from a hydro generator that transforms the river’s energy into power. The generator supplies the wet and dry mills, as well as everyone who lives and works on the farm.

This coffee is the Victoria 14 variety—a special hybrid developed for both outstanding cup quality and high resistance to environmental challenges. The plant is well adapted to local conditions, handles windy weather well, and produces an excellent cup.

The Diego Guardia family has owned the farm for over a century. Since the 1970s, coffee has been their main source of livelihood. In 1999, Alberto Guardia invested in a processing station to focus more on quality—at a time when coffee prices were historically low. In those years, he became a pioneer of what were then uncommon processing methods: honey and natural.

With decades of experience, Sonora is now home to more than 20 coffee varieties. Diverse processing methods and fertilization strategies complement the incredible terroir. This natural lot is sweet, bright, and exceptionally interesting as a flavor profile example of Costa Rican coffee. We enjoy it with a smile.
